To Kill a Mockingbird Part 1

Stumbling in my big awkward costume, Jem and I walked through the dark schoolyard.
"I wish I hadn't ruined the play. Did people really laugh at me, Jem?" I asked.
"Yeah, they did. But its fine, we all make mistakes," responded Jem.
When we came near our house, we noticed that under the light-pole standing was a strange figure.  Jem whispered "Get behind me, Scout."  Just as he said I slowly walked behind him.
Each step we took, each time we got closer to the figure. Through the costume I could see that the stranger had on overalls, long sleeve shirt, boots, and a hat. As we got more nearer to the stranger, I saw that the hat was a little over the stranger's face, making it hard to see who it was.
When we were a foot away from the stranger; I saw something shiny in his left hand. But just before I could tell Jem about it, the stranger whispered "Where do you two think you're going?" Suddenly, without any warning, the stranger grabbed Jem by the collar and lifted him up. Then I instantly recognized the voice…Bob Ewell.
He had a knife in his other hand.  The knife thrust before him; coming down directly at Jem. Before I could scream or even run for help; a pale stranger quickly stepped in between Jem and the stranger. He grabbed Bob's arms violently, and threw him to the ground, making Jem fall next to me. The two struggled and tussled on the ground. Suddenly, I saw Atticus running towards us yelling "Stop! Stop it! No, Arthur!"  Then it came to me…the pale stranger was the legendary (at least to me) Boo Radley.
I hanged on to Jem, burying my face in his back, terrified of what was happening in front of me, I didn't want to watch.  Then just as I looked up, I saw Bob sitting on top of Boo with the knife in his hand. With a strong force, he drove it deep into Boo's chest.
Horrified at the sight I screamed as loud as I've ever had in my life. All the lights in the neighborhood came on; everyone came out to see what happened. Everything around me was spinning and I suddenly couldn't feel my legs and collapsed. Then there was total blackness…
I awoke in a hospital bed next to Boo. I was confused until I spotted Jem and Atticus next to me.  Atticus told me that Boo was weak and healing from the wound, but he was overall fine. I looked over and saw Boo Radley sleeping in the hospital bed, thanking God that he was still alive. I felt fine, but had a small headache.
The next day there was a trail at the Maycomb City Courthouse. It was the trial of Robert E. Lee "Bob" Ewell vs. the State of Mississippi for the attempt of murder of Arthur "Boo" C. Radley. Just like the Robinson trail, the courthouse was overfilled with people on the balcony, seats, and floors.
Bob Ewell pleaded not guilty, with reason of self-defense. This obviously wasn't the truth, commonly a characteristic of the Ewells. The Ewells represent one of the lowest classes of people in Maycomb. They are what are considered "poor white trash".
The trail was fair and easy. There were plenty of witnesses to the terrible situation last night; Jem, Atticus, Boo, the neighborhood, and I.  The trial last for only ten hours, Bob was found guilty of attempted murder. The court decided to give Bob thirty years in prison. We all were satisfied and pleased with the verdict.
After the trial, we all walked home. Before Boo left to go back into his house, Jem and I gave him a very big thankful hugs. We also thanked his for the offerings he always left us in the oak tree. He replied by smiling and patting our heads.

To Be Continued

To Kill a Mockingbird- Part 2

I decided to become a lawyer just like Atticus. Following in his footsteps, I went to law school, passed the bar, and opened my own firm in Maycomb. I also decided not to marry until I settled down after law school. I always thought about having kids, even when I was younger, and I still plan to fulfill that idea.
Twelve years after the Boo's trial, and just like mother, Atticus died of a heart attack. We were all shocked and surprised with the death. I couldn't keep my eyes from being watery a whole week. Atticus' death made most of Maycomb residents sober.
There were more people at the funeral than the Robinson's and Ewell's trials combined. Everyone in Maycomb was there: Jem, me, Dill, Aunt Alexandria, Calpurnia, Tom Robinson's family, Heck Tate, Miss Atkinson, the Cunningham family, and Boo Radley.
A few weeks after the funeral our lives went back to daily basis. Jem and I haven't heard from Boo Radley since the funeral so with curiosity we went to the Radley house.  I had a strange feeling that something was wrong with Boo.
Jem knocked on the door...no reply.  I knocked on it…no reply. Just as we were about to leave, the door flung open with Mr. Radley beside it. He looked extremely weak leaning against the door for support. His eyes were red and had deep blue bags underneath. It looked as if he'd been crying a lot with that terribly
"We're here to see Boo," I said. Mr. Radley pointed up the stairs. The house was empty, dusty, dark, and looked old and abandoned. Without saying a word, Jem and I helped him walk up the staircase. At the end of the long hallway was a old wooden door. And in the first time in years Mr. Radley said "Arthur's in there".
We opened the door and saw Arthur laying on a bed with a single blanket on him. He was coughing up a storm in the dusty room. We let Mr. Radley sit on the chair that was next to Boo and rushed to Boo's side. I saw him trying to speak but nothing came up, except for a few coughs.
We stayed there are awhile, knowing these were Boo's last moments. I bursted into tears, I couldn't bear to witness another death. I felt Boo's hand on mine and looked up. He whispered "Please don't cry…everything is going to be ok." I could tell that those nine words made him exhausted.
Jem and I told Boo about all our silly childhood. As we talked about it, I felt as if I haven't aged a day. Those memories made me feel as if I was six again. Boo smiled at us, understanding how much we enjoyed this talk.
A few moments later after we were done talking about childhood, Boo said "Scout…Jem…thank you both for everything". With tears in our eyes, we looked at Boo. Jem said, "And thank you for saving our lives" Then I said "We will never forget about you, Boo."
With tears flowing down my cheeks and landing on Boo's hand, he smiled one last time. "Goodbye, my friends" was his last words. Then slowly, he closed his eyes.
The funeral took place the next day. Very few people came to it, as to very little people knew Boo to come. There was Jem, Heck Tate, Mr. Radley, me, and the usual people who come to every funeral. There was also a few that never met Boo before but came because they wanted to see what he actually looked like.
The Radley's didn't have a family cemetery so Boo was buried in it beside Atticus' grave, seeing as there was no other fitful burial place for him. Plus Boo was practically family towards the end of his life. Someday I will join the both of them, Atticus and Boo.
Rest in peace, my father, Atticus Finch, and my friend, Arthur "Boo" C. Radley.
